New College, University of Oxford

New College was founded in 1379 with a charitable donation from Bishop William of Wykeham, Chancellor of England 1324-1404. His concept for an archetypal campus included a Chapel, hall, tower, and library, constituting a quadrangle of the sacred, along with shared community, inspired vision and thinking. It would be a place where students and academics would live, work, instruct and learn in community.

The College currently currently consists of 430 undergraduates and 360 graduates.

The Gradel Institute of Charity is part of the College and is governed by a College Committee chaired by the Warden of New College, Miles Young. The committee reports to the College’s governing body each term which has the ultimate authority.

In March 2023 Professor Peter Frumkin was appointed as our first Academic Director. He joins the Institute from the University of Pennsylvania and has a fearsome academic reputation for research and teaching in non-profits. He joins Sir Stephen Bubb who was appointed the Executive Director in 2022.
